Sclerotherapy For Varicose Veins

Whether or not you need vein stripping to remove those ugly varicose veins depends on your condition. For severe cases, doctors regularly propose this policy which has a high cure rate.

By severe, I mean varicose veins that appear as bulging bluish cord like lines running down the legs which are accompanied by feelings of heaviness and fatigue, and itchy ulcerated skin.

In stripping, the surgeon ties off and removes the afflicted veins. This allows other healthy veins in the area to do the job of the diseased veins.

For spider-burst leg veins which often occur with varicose veins, sclerotherapy can help. Unlike varicose veins, this range of small bluish veins is not medically vital and is regularly a cosmetic problem. They have no symptoms except that they seem small spiders and may pose a question to those who want to wear a skirt or shorts.

"The easiest policy is to ignore the veins: they are common, mild and a medically insignificant range of varicose veins. However, if the unsightly blood vessels do concern you or, more importantly, they prevent you otherwise from doing what you would enjoy, sclerotherapy is a treatment option," according to Dr. David E. Larson, editor-in-chief of the "Mayo Clinic house health Book."

How is sclerotherapy done? This involves injecting the affected area with a sclerosing agent, a chemical which closes the diseased veins and soldiery blood to voyage to other veins.

"The policy is done while you are standing. The doctor gradually injects a solution into one or some of the visible veins. Treating each vein requires only a few minutes. Then, a small bandage is wrapped snugly colse to your leg over the veins and is left on for 24 hours," explained Larson.

As the spider veins collapse, blood can no longer flow straight through them and this eliminates the discoloration. In a week or so, the spider veins fade and may disappear in a month. As for side effects, sclerotherapy is safe provided it is done by a specialist.

"In about one in three of those who endure the procedure, a yellow brown discoloration may appear in the area and take weeks or even months to fade. In rare instances, this discoloration persists longer," Larson revealed. (Next: Radiosurgery for varicose veins.)

To look good, use Lumnaderm, a whitening cream that eliminates freckles, unsightly age spots, sun spots, blemishes and hyperpigmentation. When used as directed, Lumnaderm will balance uneven skin tones and illuminate your skin.
